Participants and Scope
The programme involved principals, headmasters, teachers from schools functioning as polling stations, BLA-2 representatives nominated by all recognised political parties, and district media representatives. Participants were briefed in detail on pre-SIR activities, including the mapping of electors registered in SIR-2003 with the current electoral roll.
Hands-on Portal Training
A key component of the programme was hands-on training on voter name search procedures. Participants were trained to search elector names registered in SIR-2003 within Jharkhand through the Chief Electoral Officer Jharkhand portal, and to search electors registered outside Jharkhand via the Election Commission of India’s voter services portal. A step-by-step leaflet explaining the name-search process was distributed to all attendees.
Outreach Through Schools and Communities
Officials appealed to school authorities to train students of Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12, along with their parents, on how to search names in the SIR-2003 list. Schools and offices were advised to display the leaflet at prominent locations frequented by parents. Students were encouraged to pass on the training at home, enabling wider community awareness.
Role of BLAs and Media
BLA representatives were requested to support their respective BLOs and ensure that the leaflets are displayed in their offices. Media representatives were urged to publicise the initiative extensively to maximise public participation and awareness about electoral roll verification.
Attendance and Chair
The training saw participation from 662 BLA-2 members, 616 principals/headmasters/teachers, along with district media representatives—over 1,400 participants in total. The programme was chaired by Priyanka Singh, District Sub Election Officer, East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur, and conducted by master trainers.
The initiative aims to ensure accurate and inclusive electoral rolls ahead of the Special Intensive Revision, strengthening voter awareness and participation across the district.
