Jamshedpur: A massive fire broke out early Saturday morning at an Amul milk warehouse located in Simuldanga, under the MGM Police Station area, along National Highway-33 (NH-33) in Jamshedpur. The warehouse, operated under the name Gujarati Sahakari Dudh Vitran Sangh Limited, is spread across approximately one acre of land.
The fire reportedly started around 6:45 AM, causing panic in the area as large flames and thick black smoke quickly engulfed the surroundings. According to eyewitnesses, the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit, although the exact cause is still under investigation.
Soon after the incident was reported, multiple fire engines rushed to the scene, and firefighting efforts began promptly. Due to the intensity of the blaze, a special rescue team was also dispatched from Jamshedpur to assist in bringing the fire under control.
The fire spread rapidly, and smoke could be seen as far as 2 kilometers from the site, causing chaos in the nearby residential areas. Hundreds of curious locals gathered near the warehouse, prompting the deployment of additional police personnel to manage the crowd and maintain order.
The warehouse is known for storing large quantities of Amul milk and dairy products, used for distribution across the region. While no casualties have been reported so far, heavy financial losses are anticipated, as the fire is believed to have destroyed stock worth several lakhs of rupees.
Authorities have cordoned off the area for safety, and a forensic investigation team is expected to assess the cause and extent of the damage. Electrical experts will also examine the site to confirm whether a short circuit indeed triggered the blaze.
Local social worker Deepak Ranjit confirmed that the warehouse was vital to milk supply operations in the region and emphasized the need for better fire safety protocols in industrial and storage facilities.
By 9:00 AM, fire control efforts were still ongoing, and fire department officials stated that it could take a few more hours to fully douse the flames due to the combustible nature of the materials stored inside.
This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for fire safety audits in warehouses and commercial storage spaces, especially those dealing with perishable and flammable goods.
