Jamshedpur:
The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) on Monday carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the busy areas of Sakchi and Straight Mile Road. The campaign was conducted under the direction of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, with enforcement teams taking joint action. The objective of the drive was to free public spaces, improve traffic flow, and maintain cleanliness and urban order across the city.
During the operation, illegal stalls, roadside vendors, temporary structures, and street-side extensions were removed. Several shopkeepers who had displayed goods on the pavement were warned strictly and instructed not to encroach again. Display items and illegally placed materials along the roadside were also seized by the enforcement team.
Violations under the COTPA Act led to issuance of challans, and strict action was taken against shopkeepers using prohibited single-use polyethylene carry bags. A considerable quantity of plastic was confiscated. In total, ₹22,800 was collected as penalty, including fines for COTPA violations, illegal encroachments, and plastic usage.
Meanwhile, the JNAC building wing inspected several construction sites in Bistupur and Sonari. During the inspection, multiple cases of deviations from approved building plans were detected. Building owners and contractors were instructed to immediately align ongoing construction with approved norms. Officials stated that strict action will continue against any violation of building bylaws.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar emphasized that such campaigns will continue regularly to keep the city free from encroachments, improve cleanliness, and enforce regulated construction practices. He appealed to traders, vendors, and residents to cooperate with the administration and follow civic norms to help maintain a clean, organized, and congestion-free city environment.
