Jamshedpur, July 10 (Correspondent):
Panic gripped the bustling Khau Gali of Bistupur on Thursday evening after unidentified assailants opened fire on Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and MLA representative Samresh Singh alias Guddu. The incident occurred around 8:39 PM while he was reportedly eating ice cream near the crowded street food area.

Two rounds were fired, one of which struck Samresh Singh in the neck. He was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he is undergoing treatment. His condition remains critical.
Police Recover Spent Cartridges, Scanning CCTV Footage
Following the incident, DSP Manoj Kumar Thakur, Bistupur police station in-charge Umesh Thakur, and other officers arrived at the scene. Police recovered two empty cartridges and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the shooters. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.

Close Aide to MLA Sukhram Oraon
Samresh Singh, a resident of Ward No. 17, Khanna Block, Chakradharpur, was appointed as the Municipal Council-level representative of MLA Sukhram Oraon on January 1, 2025. Once associated with the BJP, he joined the JMM in the lead-up to the 2024 Assembly elections and is considered a close aide of the MLA.
He is the youngest of three brothers. His father, the late Shiv Mangal Singh, was a retired railway employee. Singh is known for his active role in local politics and community outreach.

Chaos in Khau Gali, Shops Shut in Fear
The firing led to immediate chaos in the area. Shops were hurriedly shut down, and customers ran for cover. Known for its evening crowd, Khau Gali quickly emptied out, with locals expressing concerns over public safety in such a popular zone.
Political Reactions and Demand for Action
The attack has sparked outrage among JMM leaders, who termed it a “planned attempt on life.” They have demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits and called for increased police presence in high-footfall areas like Khau Gali.
