Mumbai,: Jamshedpur FC Reserves’ impressive run in the Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL) 2024-25 came to a halt in the semifinals as they suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of a clinical Mohun Bagan Super Giant side at Reliance Corporate Park in Navi Mumbai. With this result, Jamshedpur FC will now face FC Goa in the third-place playoff scheduled for April 14.

Jamshedpur FC had a bright start to the game, taking an early lead in the 13th minute through in-form forward Bivan Jyoti Laskar. The goal came after Bivan capitalised on a poorly-cleared ball by the Mohun Bagan defence and struck a crisp left-footed finish to put his team ahead.

However, Mohun Bagan responded swiftly. Just five minutes later, Sahil Inamdar headed in an equaliser from Leimpokpam Sibajit Singh’s cross, catching the Jamshedpur defence off guard. The momentum shifted in favour of the Mariners, who added two more goals before halftime. Loitongbam Taison Singh’s low finish in the 22nd minute and Serto Worneilen Kom’s close-range strike in the 39th gave Mohun Bagan a 3-1 lead at the break.

Jamshedpur FC struggled to regain control in the second half as Mohun Bagan tightened their defence and continued to push forward. Serto Worneilen Kom added his second of the evening with a stunning strike from distance in the 72nd minute, and substitute Shibam Munda completed the scoring six minutes later to seal a dominant 5-1 victory for the Kolkata side.

Despite the defeat, it has been a memorable campaign for the young Jamshedpur FC, who topped their group and produced some eye-catching performances along the way. They will now regroup and look to end their RFDL journey on a high when they face FC Goa — who lost their semifinal to Classic FA — in the third-place playoff on April 14.
