Jamshedpur: A tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning near the city’s Dimna Lake. Three junior doctors from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College and Hospital drowned in a restricted (danger zone) pond. One of the doctors, who knew how to swim, miraculously managed to save his life and get out, but the other two drowned in the deep water. Upon receiving the information, police and a team of divers rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search operation for the two missing doctors.

Partying in the Danger Zone: How Did the Accident Happen?

According to reports, the three MGM junior doctors—Samir, Saksham, and Yash—were partying early Friday morning near a pond close to Dimna Lake. The administration has explicitly declared this specific area a ‘Danger Zone’ and strictly prohibited public entry. Despite the restrictions, the trio reached the spot.

During the gathering, one of the doctors’ mobile phones accidentally slipped into the pond. In an attempt to retrieve the device, the doctor stepped into the water but began to drown due to misjudging the depth. Seeing their friend struggling, the other two doctors also jumped into the pond to rescue him.

Dr. Yash Survives Due to Swimming Skills

The water was exceptionally deep, and the pond’s water level had significantly risen due to continuous heavy rainfall in the region. Among the three, only Dr. Yash knew how to swim. After a desperate struggle, he successfully made it out of the water, while his companions, Dr. Samir and Dr. Saksham, tragically submerged.

Upon safely reaching the shore, Dr. Yash immediately informed his colleagues and the local police about the harrowing incident.

 Identity of the Drowned Doctors

  • Dr. Saksham: A resident of Daltenganj.

  • Dr. Samir: A resident of the Kashidih area in Jamshedpur.

The slippers of both doctors were found lying near the edge of the pond. As news of the incident spread, several other medical professionals and junior doctors from MGM Hospital reached the site. A deep sense of mourning has engulfed the hospital management and the medical college campus. Currently, the police are questioning Dr. Yash for further details regarding the sequence of events, while rescue operations led by local divers continue at the lake.
