Jamshedpur, October 29, 2019: The Tata Steel Centre for Excellence today organised a Jamshedpur Heritage Tour for 44 students from St. Mary’s English High School, Kerala Public School, Kadma; DAV Public School, Bistupur and JUSCO School South Park.
The tour covered historical locations like Keenan Stadium, Armoury Ground, P N Bose Memorial, St. George’s Church, Kalibari Temple, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Golmuri Clock Tower, Tinplate Company of India Ltd. (TCIL) and Tata Motors.
Ms Sunita Nupur, an educationist, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, Ms Nupur said, “It is a very good effort by Centre for Excellence in organising such an event since many of us are unaware about the historical significance of this city.”
The event was flagged off from the Centre for Excellence and concluded at Tata Motors. The students were also briefed on places like Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Parsi Fire Temple, Sakchi Bazaar, Sakchi Gurudwara, and the Indian Steel and Wire Products Limited (ISWPL) during the tour.
Mr Ronald D’Costa, a hotelier and social worker and Mr Uday Prakash Singh, Public Relations Officers, TCIL, were invited as the guest speakers. They took the participants through the historical significance of locations and captivated them with some interesting anecdotes.
Refreshments were organised by Ms Sandhya Murthy for the participants. Tata Motors provided their bus for the tour.Centre for Excellence has been organizing Heritage Walk since 2016 to make the present generation aware of the rich heritage of the city. For the first time, the tour was organized in a bus. At the end of the tour, a heritage brochure and a snack packet each, were distributed to the students.
