South Eastern Railway is running Time Tabled Parcel Express Trains to different parts of the country for uninterrupted supply of medicines, medical equipments and other essential commodities during the nationwide lockdown. During this emergency situation, transportation of medicines and medical equipments has been given the top most priority by South Eastern Railway.
Up to 17th of April, 2020, South Eastern Railway has loaded altogether 2.82 tonnes of medicines, medical equipments and masks through different parcel express trains from originating stations within the jurisdiction of this railway. Transportation of these essential medical items was executed through parcel express trains running between Shalimar-Ranchi, Shalimar-Mumbai, Howrah-Yesvantpur and Howrah-Secunderabad for destinations viz. Ranchi, Rourkela, Chennai, Bengaluru, Durg, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mumbai etc. All the parcel express trains will continue to run up to 3rd May, 2020 to meet the various demand of essential commodities.
The unique initiative of running parcel express trains by railways has ensured swift movement of essential items to keep the supply chain steady during this crisis period caused due to outbreak of COVID-19. Railway employees are working round the clock for seamless transportation of these essential and life saving commodities.
