Tata Steel extends support to Jharkhand contingent for Special Olympics World Summer Games at Abu Dhabi

9Jamshedpur: A Send-Off Ceremony was organized today at the JRD Tata Sports Complex for the contingent of Team Jharkhand which is going to participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games at Abu Dhabi. The Games will be on during March 14 – 21, 2019Colonel Vikramjit Singh Panag, CO 37 Jharkhand Bn NCC, Jamshedpur, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Vikramjit Singh Panag said, “I extend my heartiest congratulations to the contingent going for the Abu Dhabi international meet. You all have capabilities to excel in your respective sports and win medals. Tata Steel’s support is very encouraging for the event.”

 

 

Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, will be the host of the 15th Special Olympics World Summer Games which will be held during March 14 – 21, 2019. Abu Dhabi is the first place in the Middle East-North Africa Region to be host to the Special Olympics World Games. The event is estimated to witness the participation of over 7500 Athletes from 192 Nations featuring 24 Olympic-type sports conducted across 7 days.

 

The Event will be telecast in more than 150 countries and is expected to have 5 lakh spectators and around 20 thousand volunteers. The Indian Contingent (Special Olympics Bharat) will have 289 Athletes (160 male & 129 female), 73 Coaches (40 male & 30 female), and 5 Officials. India athletes will participate in 17 disciplines.

Team Jharkhand has so far participated in 8 World Summer Games & 5 Winter Games. Jharkhand athletes have won 19 Gold, 16 Silver & 15 Bronze Medals in previous World Games. 34923 athletes are registered with Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), Jharkhand.
