Jamshedpur, December 24: As the holiday season envelops the world in joy and warmth, the players of Jamshedpur FC bring unique and heartwarming traditions to their celebrations, each reflective of their rich cultural backgrounds. Despite being away from home, the team finds solace in celebrating together, fostering a family-like atmosphere in Jamshedpur.

Albino Gomes: Goa’s Christmas Spirit

For Albino Gomes, Christmas is deeply rooted in Goan traditions. This year holds special significance as it coincides with the rare Exposition of Saint Francis Xavier in Goa, a once-in-a-decade event showcasing the incorrupt body of the Saint, preserved for over 400 years. Albino fondly recalls celebrating Christmas with his family by crafting a crib and enjoying Goan delicacies like Navrio and Dodol. “Christmas is a huge festival in Goa,” he says. His childhood memories of carol singing, where sweets and money were blessings eagerly awaited, continue to bring a smile to his face. Albino also cherishes attending prayers at the Jesus Mary and Joseph Church in Nuvem, Goa.

Javier Hernandez and Siverio: A Spanish Touch

The Spanish duo, Javier Hernandez and Siverio, bring a taste of Spain to their celebrations. Their traditions revolve around a feast of ham, roast suckling pork, seafood, cheese, and Spanish wine and champagne. The players embrace the festive spirit by wearing red, a symbol of celebration, and observing the unique Spanish New Year tradition of eating 12 grapes at midnight. “For us, Christmas is a family celebration,” Javier shared, mentioning his cherished visits to the Church of San Vicente Martir back home. While both players miss their families, they appreciate the camaraderie and warmth at Jamshedpur FC, which makes them feel at home.

Despite being far from their loved ones, the players connect with their families through video calls, sharing the joy and spirit of the season.
