Jharkhand state declared overall champion of the tournament

Jamshedpur, : The 10-day long sports extravaganza, 40th NTPC Senior National Archery Championship, concluded at JRD Tata Sports Complex at Jamshedpur today. The championship was hosted by the Jharkhand Archery Association in association with Tata Steel’s Tata Archery Academy, under the aegis of Archery Association of India (AAI) and Jharkhand Archery Association. The championship was inaugurated on October 2, 2021 at Archery Ground, JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Dr. M Tamil Vanan, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, East Singhbhum District, Jharkhand, and Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel, graced the concluding day with their presence and gave away prices to the winners. The Jharkhand state was declared the overall champion of the tournament.

Among others present for the concluding event were Mr Farzan Heerjee, Chief, Protocol & Sports, Tata Steel; Mr Mukul Choudhari, CEO, Jamshedpur Football Club & Chief Sports Excellence Centers (Academies), Tata Steel; Dr. K B Gurung, Observer, Sports Authority of India; Mr Shihan Hussaini, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu Archery Association; Mr Sanjeeva Singh, High Performance Director, Sports Authority of India, Sonipat; and Mr Gunjan Abroal, Assistant Secretary, Archery Association of India.

The championship witnessed the presence of more than 1,000 archers from 40 member associations (states of India + UTs + other associations like SPSB, AIPSB, etc.), team officials, sports control or promotion boards, esteemed jury, and officials. The championship had three event categories: Indian Round, Compound and Recurve (men & women).

The top 55 archers from the championship (including Recurve & Compound Archery) will further participate in 2021 Asian Archery Selection Trials, being organised on October 10 – 11, 2021, being organised at Jamshedpur. The selected archers will then be part of the Senior National Camp to be organised at Jamshedpur from October 17 to November 17, 2021. The 2021 Asian Archery Championship will be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
