Jamshedpur,– Tata Steel Foundation concluded the fifth edition of Sabal Awards last evening, bringing together a vibrant display of talent from Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Hosted on September 28, 2024, at the Tribal Culture Centre (TCC), Sonari in Jamshedpur, in the presence of Tata Steel senior leadership, parents and guardians of Persons with Disabilities and previous winners of the Sabal Awards.

Over the past editions, Sabal Awards has been recognising exceptional talent from across the country in Persons with Disabilities, reiterating the need to create more inclusive platforms. This year alone over 750 applicants shared their entries from across 21 states and four union territories. 50 top finalists were then shortlisted to participate in the final screening, shedding light on their individual journey of strength, courage, and creativity.

Another highlight from this edition includes a special selection of top participants from each category, who will perform at the final Sabal Awards closing ceremony at the National Centre of Performing Arts, in January 2025, Mumbai, in collaboration with the Shankar Mahadevan Academy, offering year-long mentorship to winners in the music and vocal nomination categories.

“We are delighted to conclude another edition of the Sabal Awards, which has created a safe, inclusive space for Persons with Disabilities. It was inspiring to see a new cohort of enthusiastic participants share their talents on stage, shaping the inclusivity of this platform. Now in its fifth edition, the Sabal Awards have become a vital driving force, bringing together like-minded partners who walk with us on this journey of empowerment—enabling safer spaces for dialogue and providing opportunities for expressions of individuality.” said Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation.

Sabal has been emerging as a national change model, addressing the need to form more inclusive societies to challenge the stereotypes and give a voice to every individual, by connecting them to government welfare schemes and building accessible spaces. The Sabal Awards continue to reflect a commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, breaking down barriers, shattering stereotypes, and showcasing the true potential of the neurodiverse community of PwDs.
