It was a deeply sorrowful day for Jharkhand’s politics and education sector as the state’s School Education and Registration Minister, and MLA from Ghatshila constituency, Ramdas Soren, passed away after a prolonged illness. He had been admitted to Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi for the past several days, where a dedicated team of doctors had been treating him. Despite their tireless efforts since August 2, the minister breathed his last on Friday.
Eldest son Somesh announces father’s demise on social media
Jharkhand’s Education Minister Ramdas Soren’s eldest son, Somesh Soren, was the first to inform about his father’s passing. At around 10:46 PM, he posted from Ramdas Soren’s official handle on social media platform ‘X’, writing — “With immense sorrow, I am informing that my father, Ramdas Soren Ji, is no longer with us.”
The news of his demise was confirmed by senior JMM leader and former MLA Kunal Sarangi through a social media post. He wrote, “It is with profound grief that I share this news — Hon’ble Ramdas Soren Ji, Minister of School Education & Registration, and MLA from Ghatshila, is no longer with us. This is a personal and irreparable loss for all of us.”
Sarangi further added that the minister’s countless admirers, well-wishers, dedicated workers, colleagues from the department, and the entire Jharkhand Mukti Morcha family are in deep shock. He expressed his gratitude to the doctors and medical staff at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, who left no stone unturned in providing treatment, but all efforts ultimately bowed before the will of the Almighty.
Political and Social Contributions
Ramdas Soren was a strong and grassroots leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He represented the Ghatshila constituency multiple times and worked tirelessly for the development of the region. As the Education Minister, he focused on improving the quality of school education in the state, strengthening infrastructure, and making registration services more streamlined and transparent.
Wave of Mourning
As soon as news of his demise spread, a wave of grief swept across the state. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, along with senior JMM leaders, opposition party members, social organizations, and members of the education sector, expressed deep sorrow. Many remembered him as a sensitive, hardworking, and visionary leader whose contributions will be remembered for years to come.
Funeral Arrangements
According to sources, his mortal remains will be brought from Delhi to his ancestral residence, where the public will be allowed to pay their last respects. The cremation will be conducted with full state honors.
