Jamshedpur: Police have busted a city-based auto theft gang and arrested three accused — Mohammad Rais, Saukat Ali, and Mohammad Asgar alias Lariya, all residents of Kapali. Acting on their lead, the police recovered seven stolen autos, 16 fake number plates, two RCs, and several dismantled auto parts.
Addressing a press briefing on Wednesday, City SP Kumar Shivashish said the gang had been actively involved in stealing autos, tampering with engine and chassis numbers, and selling them with forged documents. Investigations revealed that Saukat Ali was responsible for stealing vehicles, while Mohammad Rais handled tampering and document forgery before selling the stolen autos.

Police further stated that the gang had carried out thefts not only in Jamshedpur but also in Ranchi, Seraikela, and adjoining districts. At Rais’s garage in Kapali, stolen vehicles were dismantled and their parts sold in the black market.
The City SP confirmed that interrogation is still underway, and more names linked to the racket are likely to surface. He added that this major breakthrough will help curb the rising incidents of auto theft in the city, marking a significant success for the police.
