Jamshedpur,: Tata Steel today celebrated the 166th Birth Anniversary of Sir Dorabji Tata remembering the icon while paying homage.
At Jamshedpur, the day’s celebration began with the homage ceremony at Sir Dorabji Tata Park. T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel Jamshedpur graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Dr T Mukherjee, former Deputy Managing Director (Steel), Tata Steel as Special Guest and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union as Guest of Honour. Present on the occasion were senior officials of Tata Steel and other group companies, Office Bearers of Tata Workers’ Union and eminent citizens of Jamshedpur.
During his speech, T V Narendran mentioned that there are a lot of leadership lessons to learn from Sir Dorabji Tata while remembering his contributions towards India’s industrialisation journey coupled with an all-round growth of the nation.
While addressing the gathering, Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union mentioned how Sir Dorabji Tata was instrumental in setting up first steel plant in the region, understood the plight of the labourers and help nurture the Union.
Tata Steel continues his legacy by considering Sir Dorabji Tata as the man who built Tata Steel. His legacy continues to inspire generations.
Sir Dorabji Tata’s passion for sports was evident as he interwove sports with the company’s ethos, following his father’s vision to reserve areas for sports and parks. His desire to see India participate in the Olympics led to the sponsorship of athletes for the Antwerp Olympic Games in 1920. His efforts resulted in securing a place for India at the Paris Olympics in 1924 and his appointment to the International Olympic Committee. He was first President of Indian Olympic Association.
Tata Steel continues his legacy by considering sports as a catalyst for nation-building. With academies established for various disciplines like football, archery, athletics, hockey and sport climbing, we nurture sporting talent across India. The legacy of Sir Dorabji Tata continues to inspire generations of businessmen and entrepreneurs in the future.
To mark the occasion, Tata Steel Corporate Communications department also organised a quiz for the media fraternity of Jamshedpur at the Centre For Excellence. Around 50 media persons including senior editors and journalists were present.
