Jamshedpur,: Golmuri police cracked two purse-snatching incidents that occurred within a span of just 15 minutes on Tuesday night. A youth riding a scooter targeted two women in separate locations, snatched their purses, and fled. Based on the complaints of the victims, police registered two separate FIRs and, with the assistance of Sidgora police, arrested the accused.
The matter was disclosed during a press conference held at the SSP office on Wednesday by City SP Kumar Shivashish.
The first incident took place around 8:15 pm when Pipla resident Nidhiram Mahato, along with his wife Rupali Mahato, was returning home from Sakchi. As they reached near the NML Flat Gate, a scooter-borne youth came from behind and snatched Rupali Mahato’s purse. A case was registered at Golmuri police station under case no. 136/25.
Barely 15 minutes later, the same accused struck again. Komal Kumari, a resident of Birsanagar, was returning home from Bistupur when she was targeted near Golmuri Church. The accused snatched her purse and sped away. This incident was registered as case no. 137/25.
Acting swiftly, Golmuri police led by OC Sanjay Suman and Sidgora OC Virendra Kumar launched a joint operation and arrested the accused, identified as Shubham Kumar, son of Shiv Shankar Rai, a resident of Vidyapatinagar. The police also seized his red Duet scooter (registration number JH05BX-2164).

From his possession, police recovered both victims’ belongings, including two pink ladies’ handbags, one Vivo mobile phone, two pairs of white bangles, one pen drive, ₹2,750 in cash, a blue helmet, three debit cards, one credit card, and women’s cosmetics.
The police team involved in the operation included OCs Sanjay Suman and Virendra Kumar, along with sub-inspectors Vikas Kumar, Gaurav Singh, Subhash Rajak, Rafiq Alam, and other personnel.
Police said the accused is being interrogated, and more cases of similar nature may be uncovered during further investigation.
